Based on activities linked to farm life and agricultural work, Basque ‘strong man’ games enabled farmers to measure their physical capacity and endurance.
And so the legendary Basque strength was born: To this day, the strong men from the villages compete against each other in fierce jousts, during qualifying rounds, before finally awarding the challenge prize to the best team.
There's no question of proving anything here, other than just having a good laugh. Are you ready to take up the challenge?
A choice of several activities or more depending on the time available:
Basque pelota tournament: STRATEGY & ACCURACY
Pitsaw cutting: COORDINATION between 2 team-mates
Straw throwing: TECHNICITY
Milk jug race: ENDURANCE
Beret throwing: AGILITY
Wood pile games : SPEED
Soka-tira: COHESION
There's also the cart lift and the anvil lift, but these are reserved for those with previous experience.
To help you recover afterwards, the "cracade gourmande", featuring local produce, is an opportunity to try (three attempts allowed!) and drink from a Basque xahakoa, without the gourd touching your lips and without spilling any liquid!
